Wave of Comfort

Innovative Shock Mitigation

Our clients, who use rigid inflatable boats, encountered a major challenge: designing a marine suspension seat that could be retrofitted, provide more comfort, and reduce body impact shocks. They needed a solution to enhance comfort while mitigating the risk of spinal injuries from heavy-duty shock impacts.

The clients were referred to JNDC through word of mouth, impressed by our track record in innovative design solutions. Understanding the gravity of the challenge, we conducted extensive research into spinal injuries caused by shock mitigation. Leveraging our expertise, we developed and refined various concepts into several prototypes. These prototypes underwent rigorous sea trials conducted by professional marine users and lifeboat crews.

We faced challenges ensuring the design could be retrofitted onto existing seat pods without extensive modifications. Our breakthrough came when we integrated a suspension system that provided optimal shock absorption while maintaining ease of retrofitting. In-house testing and sea trial feedback were crucial in refining the design to meet high standards for marine safety and comfort.

The final design has been fitted to lifeboats and exhibited at an international boat show, showcasing its innovative features and effectiveness. The Wavemaster shock mitigation seats allow users to retrofit the seating system onto existing fibreglass seat pods, eliminating the need for replacements. This design enhances comfort and significantly reduces the risk of spinal injuries, setting a new standard in marine seating technology. JNDC's expertise helped Wavemaster achieve a revolutionary product that stands out in the market, ensuring safer and more comfortable operation of high-speed boats.
